![]() ![]() The Alloy of Law is an okay jumping in spot for the Cosmere, but keep in mind that this book has spoilers for the original Mistborn trilogy. Finding these easter eggs is one of the things that makes re-reading the books so much fun. There are tidbits in each of the books that inform the other books, but you don’t have to notice these things to enjoy the story by itself. That said, it really doesn’t matter which Cosmere series you start with, which means any of these books are good starting points: I recommended reading the books in sequential order rather than trying to dive into the second book in a series without having read the first book. He tells them they are going against logic to assume that Lucy is lying about the magic wardrobe that leads to the magical country of Narnia even though Peter and Susan made a failed attempt to reach Narnia in the wardrobe themselves. The two older children are completely taken aback by the Professor’s reading of the situation. In one of the more memorable chapters in the book, Peter and Susan go to seek council from Professor Kirk concerning the irregular behavior of Lucy. I offer here three noteworthy lessons from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the first installment of the Narnia series. My children love the adventure stories of other children and I enjoy the sound practical lessons and theology woven by Lewis throughout the stories. He has a plan he has been working hard at a job that he doesn't particularly like to save enough money to take an indeterminate time off to figure out what he wants to do with himself. Set in New York, "Holiday" stars Carey Grant as Johnny Case, a fledgling businessman who is more concerned about making a career out of something he wants to do, and not what he should do in order to make a lot of money. In the case of George Cukor's 1938 film "Holiday", she had a couple of friends involved with the picture who insisted that she be used (she had been the understudy of her film counterpart on the stage) which turned out to be an excellent plan since she is one of the many great things about this film. Unfortunately, after the Production Code blasted out full throttle, strong roles for women disappeared because women no longer had a strong voice in cinema, so a lot of the heavier-hitters (Hepburn, Joan Crawford, Miriam Hopkins) ended up foundering in what they were given. There are things that happened here that really made me go, whaaaaaattt, whyyyyyy? why are you so, so, sooooo bad? This story is not for readers who like it when killers make a complete 180 by the end of the book. Hands up to JJ McAvoy for being consistent and staying firm with characters' personality, ethics and morals. I like it when book characters evolve and turn out for the better, but my problem is that the characters often become too soft that it borders on getting "out of character". Halfway through the story though, they have a semi-change of heart (usually because of the developing love story) and develop a conscience. I've read other books wherein one or both main characters are introduced as highly skilled, no-mercy mercenaries. ![]() Not that I liked every single thing about it, but because the author was really able to stick to what she presented us at the book blurb and the beginning if the story: two ruthless people who have no qualms whatsoever to do what they want to do for what they believe in. ![]() I cannot not give this book 5 stars because it just impressed the heck out of me. ![]() ★★★★★ 5 stars!
